What are some types of cholesterol or triglyceride lowering drugs?
The most advertised and prescribed cholesterol lowering drugs today
belong to a group of drugs called statins. Next come some special
resins: niacin (nicotinic acid), one of the B vitamins taken in very large
amounts; bile acid binding resins; and the fibrates, which are used
mostly to lower triglycerides. The key goal of these medications is to
lower the LDL (bad) cholesterol, while not lowering the HDL (good)
cholesterol, or to lower triglycerides (fat in the blood).
