Can animals get diabetes?

Yes. We personally know a dachshund on twenty-five units of insulin. If you think it's hard to regulate a person on insulin and deal with their low blood sugar, just try it with a cat or dog sometime.

Animals even experience some of the same peripheral problems that people do. For example, veterinarian-author Michael Fox says that dog food manufacturers often throw sugar into their product to act as a preservative. Doggone them!
